Seperation joint in conrete slab and column footing

The following Photos are from a site visit to the soon to be Spotlight and Anaconda new premises. It is load bearing precast concrete construction, and is situated on the corner of settlement road and breakwater road in Belmont, the Builder for the project is LYONS Construction which specialses in industrial construction. This photo show the column of stanchioun concreted in with a seperation from the slab flooring, this is achieved by use of a seperation joint which is to allow the slab to expand with out putting pressure onto the column or its pad footing.

Phil,
It's good that you have been on a building site to see this. Now, is there anything you could add by way of comment about this:
1. Name of building, its location, builder/architect involved.
2. Why does a column base look like this.
3. What comes next.
A bit more effort is needed.R.K.
